I'm so excited to be posting a favourites post because they are 1000000% my absolute favourite thing to read/watch in the beauty blogging world as I think they give such an insight in to what actually works. Bloggers review and use so many items and probably "like" them on their blogs but it's only what appears in their favourites that are actually worth buying (in my opinion).
My favourites of August -
Firstly Skincare:
Although my acne hasn't completely disappeared, the second hand problem of acne is the lovely scars that they leave behind (sarcastic smiley faces :) :) :)). My research directed me to the use of a Vitamin C product to help clear this up and the Una Brennan Superfacialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil happened to be on offer in Boots when I was browsing, and I'd read a couple of good reviews of it and decided to pick one up for myself. Although I haven't noticed a huge amount of improvement on my acne scars, this oil really leaves a glowing and nice complexion to apply makeup on top of and is a lovely addition to my morning skin care routine. It's a slight faff as you have to apply it to a dry face with dry hands so it's not an in the shower jobby, but I do really like the citrus smell and the way it makes my face look so that's why it's in my favourites!
I can see the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo being a firm favourite for quite a while. I really notice the nasty changes on my skin when I don't use this product and not only has it really helped clear up my acne but it's also a really nice, moisturising product to use before bed or before applying makeup. I've just finished my second tube and am aching to get a new one soon because my life is just that little bit worse for not having it. My only complaint is that the tubes are too small for regular use, 2 tubes have lasted just under 2 months and I like to use it in the morning and at night, but I really recommend it for general good skin and for spot clearing-upping.
On to Makeup:
A combination of skin improvements and not caring as much about people seeing me without makeup slapped on has lead to my general face every day to wear to work being big brows and lashings of mascara (with a bit of concealer if i'm feeling particularly self conscious). I've really loved using the Revlon Brow Fantasy Pencil and Gel in Brunette for my brows this month as the pencil is a very good colour match and petite enough to get in to the nooks and line the brow, but heavy enough to really give them some colour. The gel on the other end is a non-crunchy setting gel with not a huge amount of added colour in it, but i've found that my brows don't move around at all during the day so that's another winner for me! A lovely, simple, rounded brow product and one I would definately recommend.
On days where I have been feeling a bit more of a face (usually on days where I'm not at the cafe) there have been 3 absolute favourites I've gone to every single day. So much so that I've not even bothered putting them in my makeup draws because I've been reaching for them so much! Firstly is the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. Now I'm feeling a bit happier in my skin it feels so great to wear a light, easy foundation (although it's described as a tinted moisturiser) and I love the finish. I've found that blending it in with my fingers has given the best look, it's radiant, glowy, evens out skin tone and is basically an awesome product which makes my face look nice, what more can I say? My only nag is a small thing, and I think I purchased a faulty bottle but every time I squeeze a small amount out, SO MUCH product comes out all over my hands and I weep because I've never spent so much money on a makeup product (£26!) so with every squeeze I am so super conscious of the price of said squeeze. It's upsetting, but generally worth it!
I've been going for a simple and summery look and have been loving the highlight/strobing trend we've been seeing everywhere so on top of my foundation I've been lathering on the highlight all over my cheekbones and the Makeup Revolution Radiance Palette has been an absolute delight. I've used all the colours multiple times, the middle one is my favourite for every day wear as it's got just the right level of shimmer, the golden one is gorgeous as it doubles up as a bit of a bronzer and brightens up the whole face, and the slightly pinky/peachy one is nice down the nose and on the forehead as it's more subtle. This palette is a must and is only £8!! SUCH good value! I've been applying my highlighter with my Blank Canvas F15 Contour Brush which has also been wonderful, this brush is as good as they get in my opinion as it's so soft and sweeps across the cheekbones beautifully. It's also excellent for contouring but I tend to use a slightly denser brush for those sorts of things.
So that's my August round up of my favourite beauty products, I hope you enjoyed reading them! September brings my first ever wedding which I can't wait for, house hunting and moving back to Guildford and also starting third year at uni, lots to do and hopefully it all will be wonderful. I'm also super excited for Autumn because I personally am so done with this "summer" lark and hate the heat, so bring on crispy leaves and chilly mornings, I love my coats and my jumpers more than anything!
